MICHALI ROTHSTEIN: When people say they love to do something, it usually comes from a special place inside. For me, cooking has always been a passion that makes my heart smile. I attribute my love for cooking to my mother who, to this day, keeps the family tradition of Filipino cuisine alive. As a young child, I loved watching and helping my mother prepare our family meals. At the age of seven, I immigrated to Southern California from the Philippines. Even though it was comfortable and easy to assimilate into the American cuisine of hot dogs, hamburgers, pizza and sundaes, I still longed for the Filipino food that my mother prepared.

As I grew older, I collected and recreated the treasured family recipes from my childhood. The savory smells filled my kitchen and I reminisced about cherished family gatherings. In my thirties, I experienced a monumental turning point and converted to Judaism before I married my husband. Part of the conversion process was learning about and keeping a kosher home. As with many challenges in life, converting Filipino ingredients to kosher ones was sometimes not as easy as converting to Judaism. Oy Vey! What was a girl to do?

Moving forward with eager motivation, I put on my apron and began to experiment. I quickly discovered that I could create authentic Filipino dishes by using kosher ingredients. With repeated trial and error, I was delighted to replicate recipes that would make my mother proud. “Kosher with a twist” is a loving compilation of prized and easy to make Filipino meals from my family to yours. Enjoy!

I believe, Filipinim migrants in Israel can trace their souls back to one of the ten lost tribes.

Haaretz Editorial: The deportations must not be carried out. The state has to recognize these children as Israelis.

January 1, 2019. Happy Birthday to the most hard working, selfless, dedicated, and strongest woman I will ever know in my lifetime. We will never completely understand why our mothers do the things they do, and they say that you’ll never understand what it means to be a mother until you become one! I used to scoff at that statement, but now as I steadily approach my own due date BzH— I already see that it is so true. I look at my mother in such a different light & higher respect nowadays, I wonder why I haven’t kissed the ground that she walked on from the very beginning. This woman is my Queen 👑! She deserves everything in this New Year, and for many many years to come!!! I can only pray that G-d blesses her with everything and more because she truly deserves it all! I love you Ma, have a Happy Happy Birthday! 🎉🎂🎁🎈🎊 🥳

MENDEL KAPLAN: Since Asher means "Reward"; since Asher was the most "Fortunate" of all of his brothers that's why he's the last one to be blessed.
MENDEL KAPLAN: Someday, Asher will be very populous,,,
MENDEL KAPLAN: ,,,All of the tribes would bless Asher. Asher would be like, somehow, the Popular One. Everybody would like Asher. Everybody would go out of their way to try to curry favor with Asher.
MENDEL KAPLAN: Asher is the only one who, actually, has the word "Blessing,,," Only when it comes to Asher do we have the word "Baruch."
MENDEL KAPLAN: Nobody begrudged Asher. In fact, they loved Asher. Asher was, somehow, always Popular,,,
MENDEL KAPLAN: Asher had an easy life. He didn't have to work too hard. Things grew well. He always had delicacies for everybody, and as such, his needs were looked after.
MENDEL KAPLAN: Asher's Daughters were the most Beautiful of all of Israel. The Kings would seek out to marry the Daughters of Asher. The Kohen Gadol who was anointed with oil, as well as the King who was anointed with oil, sought to marry the Daughters of Asher, so, now, we some idea of Asher's Wealth: far more important than his wonderful oil or the beautiful produce, Asher had very, very beautiful children.
MENDEL KAPLAN: The territory of Asher was outstanding with an abundance of oil,,,
MENDEL KAPLAN: Only the tribe of Asher responds.
MENDEL KAPLAN: Scripture you're not supposed to memorize. Scripture you're supposed to read. In fact, there are those who are careful not even to repeat verses by heart. Fundamentally~Speaking, it's even forbidden to memorize it because things which are supposed to be Written you're not supposed to commit it to memory. You have to memorize the ideas. It's all about the Concepts. Scripture shouldn't be committed to memory. I guess, the point that is being conveyed to us is that Asher and his oil are quite memorable and that has a lot to do with memory and a lot to do with being able to retain,,, Holiness,,, Torah ideas,,,

Bnei Lot are of an ancient origin. In the migratory tradition of Ruth begun more than two millennia ago, a remnant of David and Solomon migrated into Maritime Southeast Asia which comprises what is now Brunei, East Timor, Indonesia, Malaysia, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, The Philippines, and Singapore, as well as Melanesia, Micronesia, and Polynesia, with a sizeable minority of Malays migrating back to their tribal allotments in Sephardic Judah, besides Terrestrial and Figurative Jordan.
