MENDEL KAPLAN: Since Asher means "Reward"; since Asher was the most "Fortunate" of all of his brothers that's why he's the last one to be blessed.
MENDEL KAPLAN: Someday, Asher will be very populous,,,
MENDEL KAPLAN: ,,,All of the tribes would bless Asher. Asher would be like, somehow, the Popular One. Everybody would like Asher. Everybody would go out of their way to try to curry favor with Asher.
MENDEL KAPLAN: Asher is the only one who, actually, has the word "Blessing,,," Only when it comes to Asher do we have the word "Baruch."
MENDEL KAPLAN: Nobody begrudged Asher. In fact, they loved Asher. Asher was, somehow, always Popular,,,
MENDEL KAPLAN: Asher had an easy life. He didn't have to work too hard. Things grew well. He always had delicacies for everybody, and as such, his needs were looked after.
MENDEL KAPLAN: Asher's Daughters were the most Beautiful of all of Israel. The Kings would seek out to marry the Daughters of Asher. The Kohen Gadol who was anointed with oil, as well as the King who was anointed with oil, sought to marry the Daughters of Asher, so, now, we some idea of Asher's Wealth: far more important than his wonderful oil or the beautiful produce, Asher had very, very beautiful children.
MENDEL KAPLAN: The territory of Asher was outstanding with an abundance of oil,,,
MENDEL KAPLAN: Only the tribe of Asher responds.
MENDEL KAPLAN: Scripture you're not supposed to memorize. Scripture you're supposed to read. In fact, there are those who are careful not even to repeat verses by heart. Fundamentally~Speaking, it's even forbidden to memorize it because things which are supposed to be Written you're not supposed to commit it to memory. You have to memorize the ideas. It's all about the Concepts. Scripture shouldn't be committed to memory. I guess, the point that is being conveyed to us is that Asher and his oil are quite memorable and that has a lot to do with memory and a lot to do with being able to retain,,, Holiness,,, Torah ideas,,,
