Mia Katikbak: I find it more challenging when I am asked to portray a typical Chinese character. I know less about that than I do about a Jewish woman, which doesn’t seem foreign to me. I have lived the majority of my life in New York; have been exposed to Jewish culture more than I have been to Chinese culture. As Asian American theatre artists we have the ability to represent multiple cultures, but the assumption is that we cannot, unless the cultures represented have people who share our physical features.
